Monday's homework

Today's homework is to read through the article on Hawaiian resistance.  Note where the author refers to primary and secondary sources.  Be prepared to discuss tomorrow!

Making sense of evidence!

I want you to visit a website called History Matters, which gives some great examples of historians making sense of evidence.   You can actually listen to the historians talking about how they are interpreting primary sources (newspapers, songs, diaries, etc.).

Click here to go to History Matters.

Week 1- Historiography

This week, we will be exploring historiography (interpreting and writing about history).  We will:
  • think about how history is constructed.
  • learn about primary and secondary sources, credibility of evidence, and the ways historians interpret evidence.
  • learn how to write a thesis.
In order to do this, we will:
  • think, read, write and discuss.
  • "become" historians.
  • watch a film.
  • go on a field trip to Plantation Village (Friday).

Welcome!

Welcome to Introduction to Social Studies!   I am looking forward to getting to know you through your hard work and contributions to the class.  I will be using this blog for important information and assignments, so check it regularly.
